C-PEDaL Participates at Interphex 2015

Last week, the Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering of Development and Learning (C-PEDAL) attended the annual technical conference known as Interphex 2015 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center with the purpose of promoting with the pharmaceutical industry the Center's functions and attributions.

The representatives of the center were Prof. Carlos Velazquez, Carmen V. Santiago, and Madeline Candelaria. They were in charge of describing to the audience the different tasks the center does trough the semester, such as the current research, educational activities, and work on task with different pharmaceutical companies. According to Carmen V. Santiago, one of the most asked subject was the Pharmaceutical Engineering Summer Camp we do each year. They also described some of the equipment found at the laboratory.

Besides having an informational booth each day, the Prof. Carlos Velazquez got the task of presenting about continuous manufacturing. Prof. Velazquez focused on the modeling and control aspects of continuous processes, which is becoming the new trend in the pharmaceutical industry.

Interphex representatives asked Prof. Velazquez how he felt the industry changed or evolved in recent years, which he responded: “The industry is more careful with their spending, locally there is a big difference in the type of professionals they are hiring and the transformation of their manufacturing. A big focus now is on efficiency and good manufacturing and more interactions with academy”. If you want to read more of this interview, click here
